Working With Me

I currently only offer Telehealth sessions Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Getting Started

Our work together beings with a 30 minute consultation, free of charge. This gives us a chance to get to know each other, for me to learn about why it is you’re seeking therapy, and to answer any questions you might have. Finding the right fit in a therapist is very important to finding success in therapy. Research shows us that regardless of the kind of therapy being done, the biggest predictor of progress in therapy is the strength of the therapeutic relationship. At the heart of my approach is a value of a strong therapeutic alliance.

Initial sessions are a time to continue this getting to know each other process. I will ask you a lot of questions to get a big picture of your life and what has brought you to seeking therapy These sessions are also a place for you to see if I am a good fit for you, meaning that I have the training and expertise necessary to provide you with good treatment. This process also helps us to set goals for therapy together that will guide our work meeting usually weekly or sometimes every other week.

Who is a Good Fit?

My practice is a good fit for those individuals seeking support around:

  • Emotional and social stressors associated with chronic disease management including HIV/AIDS, diabetes and heart disease and changes in health status

  • Coping with life changes and transitions, aging and unresolved grief 

  • Professional burnout mitigation, compassion fatigue managing stress related to work and professional development.

  • Emotional and social stressors associated with school (undergraduate and graduate) and new jobs

  • Anxiety and uncertainty related to sense of self, identity and place in the world 

What Does a Good Fit Look Like?

  • You feel heard by your therapist

  • You feel accepted by your therapist and importantly don’t feel judged

  • You feel safe in the relationship and that you can trust the therapist with your personal and vulnerable information

  • Your therapist isn’t your friend -  they offer you warm and consistent support within healthy and appropriate boundaries

  • Your therapist may push you at times or may offer an interpretation that is different from how you understand things, but they do so in a way that makes you feel respected and leaves room for exploration together

  • The work is collaborative and your therapist receives your feedback and incorporates it into their individualized work with you
